The skin in the human body loses its firmness with ageing and sags due to the force of gravity, and wrinkles, recesses and loss of volume become apparent in certain areas as well. Loss of soft tissue volume occurs in areas such as the face, breasts, buttocks and legs, and consequently, loss of contour becomes evident. These issues may also occur with cancer, accidents and burns. With such issues, fat cells obtained from the patient’s own body are used as fillers. Liposuction has become widespread in recent years as an indispensable procedure with precise results.
The average duration of a fat grafting procedure performed under sedation, local or general anesthesia at our hospital varies between 30 minutes and 2 hours. The type of anesthesia and duration of surgery is determined by the amount of fat to be removed and the size of the area it will be injected. Fat is removed with liposuction by inserting thin injection cannulas into fat-rich areas of the body. Afterwards, the fat is subjected to various procedures to extract its stem cell constituents. This purified adipose tissue is then injected into the desired areas.
Fat grafting is a procedure that does not leave any scarring and is suitable for people with tissue deficiency or asymmetry for any reason other than cosmetic purposes.
Any conditions that may hinder the operation to be performed at our hospital, Apex Clinic, are checked by an anesthesiologist and necessary blood tests are performed.
At our hospital, patients that undergo fat grafting surgery can eat and walk 4 hours after the operation. Not all patients may suffer from swelling and bruising after surgery. Ice compression is applied for injections to the facial area. Any swelling and bruising that occurs after fat grafting surgery is largely subsided within 48 to 72 hours. After fat grafting surgery, the patient is discharged on the same day and can return to their daily life within a few days.
