Wrinkles and sagging are unavoidable and impact our facial expressions with the effects of gravity, exposure to sunlight and ageing. At our hospital, Apex Clinic, we eliminate aesthetic problems of the upper face with procedures such as forehead lifting, eyelid surgery, brow lifting and temple lifting performed by specialist surgeons.

Face lifting is the procedure that involves stretching and sculpting, followed by appropriately suturing the layer under the skin which contains our mimic muscles. During facelift surgery, forehead lifting and eyebrow lifting procedures are also performed according to the patient’s needs. Smaller and easier procedures such as eyelid lifting (blepharoplasty), open or endoscopic forehead lifting and micro-lifting techniques are also performed in upper facelift surgery which involves removing excess skin and fat tissue from the eyelid, making an incision in the hairline and lifting the temples. Full face lift operations are performed with an incision that starts from the front of the ear, continues behind the ear and then extends into the scalp.

Although the results of upper facelift procedures performed in middle-aged and older patients are permanent, it will not stop the ageing process. Upper facelift surgery which is performed under general anesthesia lasts 1 to 3 hours, and the drains inserted at the operation site are removed after 24 to 36 hours postoperatively. A facelift garment worn postoperatively should not be removed for 1 week. Patients should stop using blood thinners and smoking 1 week prior to surgery.

Patients may eat and also get out of bed and walk 4 hours after undergoing upper facelift surgery. Pain killers will be sufficient to relieve pain caused by tightness in the face. The patient will be discharged on the first day of surgery. Postoperative edema and swelling in the facial region will disappear completely in about 2 to 3 weeks. The patient can shower 1 to 2 days after surgery, but bandages will be applied to the face for the first 2 to 3 days after surgery. The patient can return to daily life in about 1 week.

After upper facelift surgery performed at our hospital, Apex Clinic, the stretched area of the face should be protected from physical factors and the patient should regularly take painkillers. The patient should choose clothes that can be worn without contacting the face to protect the face. Smoking must be avoided for at least 1 month after surgery.
